1. Contains a title using the format listed above .25 points
3a ~ World Cities
2. Contains a web link to your locations. (eg you can use the tools in your blog where you paste your work; there is a little icon that looks like a link) .25 points
3. Contains an explanation regarding how this component (any aspect of it; eg content of videos, content of websites)connects to your study of humanities. .25 point
Comparing Seattle and San Francisco relates to our humanities study by examining the different deposits the different cities make to their residents. Feire was a believer in the "banking system". He thought that education looked at students as banks where they could deposit their information. In comparing the two cities we can examine the different types of deposits made in both cities. In Seattle one deposit may be that coffee is to be drank all throughout the day. In San Francisco one deposit may be that people have the right to choose their partner regardless of sex.
4. Contains the following elements that will be used in upcoming projects for analytical purposes:
a. What are some assumptions/stereotypes you think people have of each location: 1 point
I think people make the assumption that it is always raining in Seattle. I think people assume that everyone from Seattle loves coffee because it is the birthplace of Starbucks. I think people stereotype residents of Seattle as being depressed due to the weather. I think people assume that the majority of San Francisco residents are homosexual. I think people assume that everyone is San Francisco is very liberal. I also think people from San Francisco are stereotyped as being environmentalists due to the progressive changes being made to make the city "greener".
b. List 3 things that make each location similar: 1 point
Seattle and San Francisco are similar because both cities are located on the west coast of the country near the ocean edge. Both cities are the most populated for their state. Also both cities are very active in political movements.
c. List 3 things that make each location so different: 1 point
Seattle and San Francisco differ in their weather patterns. Seattle is known for it's rain and San Francisco for it's fog. Also the cities differ in the kind of people they attract. Many people visit San Francisco of it's many attractions and diverse culture while many people who visit Seattle are just going to board their cruise to Alaska or venture to the Cascade mountains. Also the atmosphere of the cities are different. Seattle is a very large city but maintains a small town atmosphere. San Francisco is also a large city and it has the atmosphere of just that.
d. Questioning: What else would you like to know about these places? When completing the question section, lead your audience into the question by stating a fact you do know, yet you still have the related question. This way, both your audience and you will have an educational experience. .5 point
I know there are many historical places in each city. I would like to know which city kept it's heritage most intact while growing into such a populated and modern place.
5. Using your classmates work from last week, tell us one thing you learned from 1 student. Is this one thing some common experience you share or some experience that is completely different than what you experienced? Is this one thing related to our class theoretical foundation and if so, how? Is that one thing related to historical or cultural context of this country or a different one? Link that persons blog to this entry (eg cut paste that blog entry here) . .5 point
I learned fro Sheena Dudley that baseball is part of American culture. I agree with Sheena because baseball has been around forever. Also it is used to help teach children teamwork and how to have fun. This is related to our theoretical foundation because sports are a way our teachers deposit information into students.
